Day 12 is really just a beginning. A beginning,
that is, of our "Seven Months to Single-Payer Success"...
We have an extraordinary opportunity over the next half-year to
improve dramatically not only Pennsylvania's healthcare delivery
system but, by way of modeling, the nation's.
America's constitutionally-defined federalism means that each of 50
states can be the standard-bearer for reform, much as individual
states have been policy-making laboratories across our 232 years of
history.
Today, for a variety of reasons having to do with our economy,
demographics, and politics, Pennsylvania is poised to lead our
nation forward on healthcare in much the same way the Keystone State
became the cradle of liberty during the American Revolution.
When Pennsylvania succeeds in overcoming through single-payer that
which ails us -- namely, the Medical-Industrial-Complex's insurance
and pharmaceutical giants, aided by purchased and fearful career
politicians (both elected and unelected) -- our federal government
can't help but elevate our single-payer success to the national
level.
Ninety-eight percent (98%) of us are at risk of medical catastrophe
for the simple reason that we either have no health insurance or we
have inadequate health insurance. No one but the top 2% can
withstand a super-costly medical condition. But even they are
threatened by a fractured delivery system that often produces severe
bottle-necks at the hospital's emergency room.
So though today is Day #12 of our "12 Days of Lobbying," our work
will soon ramp-up again -- and, this time, the battle will be
lengthier and tougher.
So stay tuned, stay engaged, and stay focused -- for the fight to
achieve economic, moral, and democratic fulfillment is sure to meet
fierce resistance from the entrenched and self-interested power of
the Medical-Industrial-Complex.
From "12 Days" to "Seven Months," with a perfect storm brewing all
about us, we are poised for an historic triumph. Count on it.
